Nancy has had much personal experience in breaking barriers. A single parent of four, she lived in public housing for seven years. During those years, she was active in her community and participated in the resident association of Jasmine Courts (formerly Condon Gardens). She was able to go back to college with the help of Operation Par, and Partners-In-Self-Sufficiency. Two of the major barriers she overcame were education and housing,. She is currently working on her Master’s Degree and is a first time home owner. She has spent nine years with Family Support Services, a program of Marriage and Family Center working with families who lived in low-income housing.
Lee grew up during the Great Depression and was taught by her mother to reach out and give a hand to those in need. She is a mother of twelve, and grandmother of twenty eight. She was head volunteer for Family Support Services, Freedom Writer for Amnesty International, member of Pilgrim’s Peace Center, President of the Cottingham School Board, and now co-founder of Barrier Breakers.
